reimbursement for books an employee may receive shall <br /> not exceed $300.00 per fiscal year. To be reimbursed, <br /> the employee must submi~ a receipt from the college or <br /> university for the book purchase and an official <br /> transcript of grades. <br /> <br /> Section 17. Probationary Period <br /> <br /> 17.1 Lenqth of Probationary Perio~ <br /> All original appointments shall be tentative and subject <br /> to a probationary period of eighteen (18) months actual <br /> service. All appointments as a result of lateral <br /> transfers or re-employment shall be tentative and subject <br /> to a probationary period of twelve (12) months of actual <br /> service. All promotional appointments to the position of <br /> Police Officer shall be tentative and subject to a <br /> probationary period of eighteen (18) months of actual <br /> service. All promotional appointments to the <br /> classification of Police Sergeant shall be tentative and <br /> subject to a probationary period of twelve (12) months <br /> actual service. The City Council may by resolution <br /> establish a longer probationary period for specified <br /> classes. <br /> <br /> 17.2 Notification Requirements <br /> <br /> A probationary employee and his/her department head shall <br /> be notified of the expiration of the employeels <br /> probationary period forty-five (45) days in advance of <br /> said date. <br /> <br /> Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date <br /> of the probationary period, the department head shall <br /> file with the Personnel Director a statement as to <br /> whether or not the probationary employee shall be <br /> retained in the position. <br /> <br /> Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date <br /> of the probationary period, the Police Chief shall file <br /> with the Personnel Director a statement as to whether or <br /> not the probationary employee shall be retained in the <br /> position. In the event the statement is not filed, the <br /> employee's probationary period shall be extended. The <br /> employee shall be notified in writing of the extension. <br /> <br /> In order that the probationary employee may be made aware <br /> of his/her progress toward both learning and fulfilling <br /> the duties and responsibilities of his/her position, <br /> he/she shall receive a hi-monthly performance evaluation. <br /> The bi-monthly performance evaluations shall be made in <br /> writing and shall be conducted by the employee's <br /> immediate supervisor and division commander. <br /> <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />Page 17 <br /> <br /> <br />
