An alignment plan for
- this full length of the road has been completed which, when
adopted, will establish the conceptual plan for this stretch of
roadway. Staff, neighbors, and Planning Commission have explored
options which consider pedestrian, bicyclist, and motorist
convenience and safety together with the constraints of mature
trees, steep hillsides, neighbors' yards, and existing permanent
street improvements. Key among the goals is maintenance, to the
extent possible, of the rural ambiance which presently exists along
the roadway as the corridor develops. Staff and the Planning
Commission have recommended an alignment plan which preserves the
option for developing the four-lane roadway as planned in the
General Plan northerly of Muirwood Drive South should the City
later so desire, but would build essentially a three-lane roadway
for the entire segment under study, Stoneridge Drive to Bernal
Avenue. Such an interim alignment attempts to recognize neighbors'
concerns, keeps the essential two-lane character of the road, and
incorporates pedestrian, bicyclist, and turning vehicle features.
Incorporating a landscaped median in the plan will assist in
breaking up the pavement width and, with asphalt curbs and native-
type landscaping, should help retain the rural character of the
road.

SR91:52 2
