17 <br /> <br /> HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE PROGRAM EDUCATION <br /> AND PUBLIC INFORMATION <br /> <br /> This section describes the education and public information objectives, existing programs, <br />program implementation and monitoring and evaluation. <br /> <br />Objectives <br /> <br /> State Planning Guidelines require that this section include objectives for the short-term <br />(1991-1995) and medium-term (1996-2000) planning periods. <br /> <br />Short-Tenn Objectives <br /> <br /> 1. Achieve a 50 percent awareness level on the part of residents and mini-generators <br /> regarding Pleasanton's HHW Program and its efforts to reduce and recycle HHW. <br /> <br /> 2. Have in place an HHW education program at 75 percent of Pleasanton's school sims <br /> by 1995. <br /> <br />Medium-Term Objectives <br /> <br /> 1. Achieve a 75 percent awareness level on the pan of residents and mini-generators <br /> regarding Pleasanton's HI-IW Program and its efforts to reduce and recycle HHW. <br /> <br /> 2. Have in place an HHW education program at 100 percent of Pleasanton's school sims <br /> by 1995. <br /> <br />Existing Conditions <br /> <br /> Pleasanton distributed brochures and other educational material providing information on <br />disposal and recycling of HHW to the public before and after the 1-day HHW collection event. <br />A portion of the educational material consisted of "HHW Wheels" provided by the Lawrence <br />Livermore Nuclear Laboratories which included information on how to recycle HHW. Pleasanton <br />also intends to participate in the County's program and advertise its availability to residents. <br /> <br />Program Selection <br /> <br /> The County wffi be developing a comprehensive public education program. Techniques that <br />the County is considering to educate people regarding HHW are: <br /> <br /> · Develop a "waste minimization" week <br /> · Local slide show or video <br /> · Brochures and doorhangers on HHW disposal <br /> · Advertising availability of facilities <br /> <br />City of fim~iea <br />Pr/nted o~ recycled paper <br /> <br /> <br />
