Attachment 3

There were none.

7. ~ATTERS BEFORE THE COM~ISSION

A. Discussion of Naminl!: Ril!:hts for the Firehouse Arts Center

Mr. Jorgensen advised that the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Foundation (PCAF) has initiated an ambitious
fundraising campaign to support the construction of the Firehouse Arts Center. Members of the
Foundation have developed a proposed Firehouse Naming Opportunities and Donor Recognition Policy,
which is designed to facilitate the solicitation of funds and provide a clear and consistent method for
recognizing donors. He further advised that the City Council has approved the conceptual design plans for
the Arts Center, and allocated $8.8M for the project.

Mr. Jorgensen provided the Commission with an overview of the design for the Firehouse Arts Center.
Chairperson Pentin questioned why this facility was not going to be known as The Pleasanton Firehouse
Arts Center. Mr. Wolfe noted that this will be a community facility, and that most people will realize that
it is Pleasanton's arts facility.

The Commission was advised by Mr. Jorgensen that the design calls for retaining the old firehouse and
adding new amenities and galleries, while retaining the visual identity of the structure. The facility will
include a 250-seat theatre, art galleries, hour-glass shaped lobby, classrooms, greemoom, office space,
restrooms, etc.

Greg Resnick, Chairperson for PCAF, reviewed with the Commission PCAF's Naming Opportunities and
Donor Recognition Policy for the Firehouse Arts Center. He advised that the City is in the process of
developing and adopting such a policy, and asked the Commission to consider the recommendations
presented by PCAF. Mr. Resnick indicated that several areas of the Arts Center, i.e. studio theater, art
gallery, classrooms, and lobby would provide significant naming opportunities, and appropriate signage
for these areas would appear within the rooms and/or at each entrance. Donor names may also appear in
publicity that describes events taking place in those locations.

Additional donor recognition throughout the facility would include: wall sponsorship (Quote Sponsors);
studio theater seats; display of potential plaques / signage in the lobby, dressing rooms, snack bar,
light/sound booth, drinking fountains, light fixtures, restrooms, etc. Exterior naming opportunities could
include: bricks, pavers, signs, or ground-mounted panels outside the building. Mr. Resnick reviewed with
the Commission diagrams of the proposed facility, indicating areas where donor recognition could be
placed. Chairperson Pentin expressed his concern with the number of places being indicated for donor
recognition. He felt it was appropriate to recognize donors of areas like the studio theater, art gallery, etc.,
as PCAF was suggesting; however, he thought placing recognition plaques in so many other areas would
be too cluttered, preferring instead to see one central donor recognition area in the facility lobby.

Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes
June 8, 2006
Page 2
