CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 99-077 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION REQUIRING INVESTIGATION BY POLICE <br /> CHIEF OF ALL PERSONS INVOLVED IN FIREARM SALES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 2, 1998, the electorate of the City of Pleasanton adopted Ordinance 1719 <br /> to add Chapter 6.64, Firearm Sales, to the Pleasanton Municipal Code to provide <br /> for the regulation of firearm sales through a permitting process and to prohibit the <br /> sale of"Saturday Night Specials"; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 6.64 requires that prospective firearm sales dealers obtain a firearm sales <br /> permit from the Police Department; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 6.64.050 of Chapter 6.64 provides that for the protection of public safety, <br /> the Police Chief shall conduct an investigation of the applicant to determine <br /> whether a firearm sales permit may be issued; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for the protection of public safety, in addition to conducting an investigation of the <br /> applicant, the Police Chief may conduct an investigation of the applicant's officers, <br /> agents, or employees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in some firearm dealerships, persons other than the applicant are involved in the <br /> sale of firearms; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for the protection of public safety, the City Council wishes to have all persons <br /> involved in firearm sales to be free of all grounds enumerated in Chapter 6.64 that <br /> would disqualify an applicant from possessing a valid firearm sales permit; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Police Chief shall deny the issuance or renewal of a firearm sales permit or <br /> revoke the same when one of the enumerated, disqualifying conditions in Chapter <br /> 6.64 exist. <br /> <br /> <br />
