The intersection of Pleasanton Avenue at Bernal Avenue is
to become a major functional and aesthetic facility.
Multiple turn lanes will be needed on Pleasanton Avenue,
south of Bernal Avenue, and on Bernal Avenue (Figure 5).

Bus service will be provided by the Livermore Amador
Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA), better known as
"Wheels." Bus stops and shelters are planned for key
pedestrian entries to park facilities along Pleasanton
Avenue.

Parking lots are to be situated around the perimeter of the
Community Park so as to protect park users from vehicular
safety hazards, noise, and interference with recreational
activities. The visual expanse of parking is to be broken up
by creating a series of smaller lots, screened by mounding
and generous landscape planting.

The efficient sharing of parking between public facilities
within and outside of the Community Park is a top priority
in order to reduce the overall number of parking spaces.
It is anticipated that the Park facilities will share on- and
off-site parking with the potential Cultural Arts Center
(CAC) to the northeast, the proposed Youth/Community
Center (YCC) to the east, and the "grand meadow" open
space to the west. In addition, approximately 250 parking
spaces are to be developed on the potential CAC site
specifically for shared use by Community Park visitors
during non-performance times at the theater. These spaces
are to be constructed prior to use of the second soccer
field. Due to the extent of overall anticipated shared
parking, major events and performances at the Community
Park, CAC and YCC will need to be coordinated by the City
to ensure that adequate parking will be available at all
times to serve the various activities.

Trails - Trail use is considered a primary component of
the Community Park Master Plan, as well as the Bernal
Specific Plans. An integrated system of Park trails (Figure
6) is planned to connect all Park facilities to one another,
as well as to the other outlying Bernal Property public
facilities. This includes trails designated in the General
Plan, Bernal Specific Plans, and the East Bay Regional Park
District's Master Trails Plan.

Trails are intended for use by leisure walkers, joggers,
sports facility users, and bicyclists. Pervious trail surfaces
are to be used, where feasible, to minimize runoff and
improve storm and irrigation water quality before entering
the natural drainage systems.

20
