V. PUBLIC ART

As previously described, an inter-connected system of
forested open space, mounded landforms, varying plant
communities, trails and Dublic art elements are planned to
link the various outdoor spaces envisioned by the Park
plan. The extent and nature of the art elements should be
determined through a public process, by way of a
Community Park art concept plan to be coordinated with
similar public art planning for the remainder of the Phase
II Specific Plan area.

Primary locations for potential art placement include the
Pleasanton Avenue entry to the Bernal Property from
Bernal Avenue, and at the primary Park gathering places.
The general theme of artwork(s) should relate to various
natural phenomena - such as climate, landform, water,
light and sound, and should enhance the natural elements
of the Bernal Property.

VI. CIRCULATION

Vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian circulation within the
Community Park is to be an integral part of the greater
Bernal Property circulation system, as presented in the
Phase I and II Specific Plans. Planning for these systems, as
they relate to the more detailed Community Park Master
Plan, is outlined below. These pertain to the extension of
Pleasanton Avenue and its major intersection with Bernal
Avenue, roundabouts, bus stops, bikeways, parking and
trails (Figure 6):

Pleasant on Avenue - Pleasanton Avenue is to be extended
southerly, from its current terminus at Bernal Avenue, to
connect with Valley Avenue (Figure 6). This will provide
the primary access to the Community Park as well as the
entire eastern portion of the Bernal Property. The street
section includes two, 13-foot wide travel lanes and two,
six-foot wide bikeways. No street parking is planned. A
nine-foot wide multi-use trail is to be constructed to the
west of the street.

Four roundabouts are planned at similar intervals along
Pleasanton Avenue to slow traffic, for safety and to
discourage through traffic by non-park users. Special care
is to be given to maximizing safe pedestrian and bicycle
traffic through these facilities. In addition to roundabouts,
pedestrian safety islands may also occur at strategic
locations along Pleasanton Avenue to better ensure safe
pedestrian movement.

19
