outdoor recreation areas and facilities. Funds allocated to California are administered by the
State Department of Parks and Recreation. During this current funding cycle, approximately
$480,000 will be available for Northern California projects.

Deadline for applications is May 1, 2006, and successful projects will be notified regarding
actual grant awards in November 2006. Should the City receive a funding allocation, staff
proposes to use the grant proceeds for development of Bernal Community Park, Phase 1. The
proposed Phase I improvements will develop approximately 13 acres of the site, including three
(3) baseball fields (two lighted), a tot lot, parking area, on-site/off-site roadway improvements. a
temporary trail, and supporting infrastructure (Le., water and wastewater lines).

As part of the application process, each public agency must provide a resolution from its
governing body approving the filing of an application for grant funding. A copy of the proposed
Resolution is attached for the Council's review.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no direct fiscal impact with the approval of this resolution. If the subsequent grant
application is successful, the project would gain up to $100,000 in additional funding.

~~

w

Ja W.
