The Executive Board provided a report and asked the
Board if it wished to accept the current plans that have circulated with amendments by the City.
The Executive Board noted that the project would be very beneficial to the Downtown and
added that there was hope that this project may expedite the acquisition of the Alameda County
Transportation Corridor.

Mr. Michael O'Callaghan, Design Committee Chair, provided several comments related to:

. the deficiency of the City to engage in a serious discussion related to the inadequacy
of the design and the exploration of alternative designs,
. that the design did not meet the intent of the Downtown Design Guidelines or the
Downtown Specific Plan,
. the contemporary design is not a good fit in the Downtown area,
. the willingness of Mr. Charles Huff to prepare alternatives for consideration by the
City Council,
. the interest to revise the exterior of the building.

He also expressed to the Board that he proposes the Board support these opinions from the
Design Committee and did not wish to delay the project. He proposed the Board adopt the
following motion:

"The Pleasanton Downtown Association supports staff's endeavor to proceed as
expeditiously as possible with the development of the arts theater and encourages, as much as
possible, to incorporate facets of the adopted Downtown Design Guidelines. "

An amendment to the motion was made by Mr. Peter MacDonald:

"The PDA supports proceeding with the Firehouse Arts Theater design as proposed, and
encourages where possible, incorporation of design facets of the adopted Downtown Design
Guidelines.
