PDA Annual Report - Page 2 ,'

The PDA board will be working with the Chamber Downtown Committee during the coming year to sponsor
a series of self. help workshops. At PDA's annum meeting in January, 1993, guest speakers presented Falrfield's story
of what it was like to go through reconsU'uction.
PDA activities also included co-sponsorship with the Rotary Club of Pleasanton the 20th annual "Heritage
Days," and outdoor dances. PDA assisted with the Cancer Society Daffodil Days and "Jail and Bail."
This spring PDA initiated a Downtown Clean-up Day with the cooperation of Foothill High School students.
It is hoped this will become an annual joint activity between youth and the business community.
Throughout the year PDA members and the Association provide door prize donations to community activities
and "freebies" at the Concerts in the Park. Monthly Farmers Market baskets are also awarded from June through
December with donations from the vendors of Pacific Farmers Market Association.
PDA members worked with those involved in the current Downtown Reconstruction Project by serving on
the Task Force or Downtown Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Currently many actively serve as Block
Captains or are on the city supported Marketing Committee to promote "Yes, Main Street Street is open!" during the
period of reconstruction.
Activities within the district for 1993-94 include many Farmers Market centered promotions, including
tastings, cooking demonstrations, and the popular Harvest Festival and Scarecrow Contest.
Now in the planning stage for December is the third annual "Hometown Holiday Parade (hopefully at night),
holiday retail and business open houses, seasonal carnage rides, and the traditional co-sponsored Christmas Tree
Lighting. Plus for this year only, a Marketing Committee sponsored Grand Reopening of Main Street and the entire
district.
The Association will participate in the 1993 Jail and Ball, CatWalk, Red Ribbon Week, and the block
reopening parties being planned by the Marketing Committee. The 1 lth annual Fridays in the Park, 17-week, summer
concert series will be weekly from May 28 through September 17 in Wayside Park.
Antique Fairgs are scheduled for May 8 and October 17, and the 21st annual Heritage Days is June 12-13.
Kids Alley, something added to the 1992 celebration, will be expanded. There will also be a co-sponsored Saturday
evening dance. Major sponsorships for Heritage Days include radio K-101, TV-5-KPIX, and the Tri-Valley Herald.
PDA also participates in the Design-an-Ad Contest in the Valley Times and plans an advertising campaign
emphasizing that "Downtown isn't just Main Su'eet!"

BUDGET:

Attached is a copy of the proposed assessment fee 1993-94 budget. Besides revenues from
assessments, the 1993-94 budget assumes a beginning fund balance of about $7,000.
The law which governs the Business Improvement District requires the assessment district to report
a fiscal budget. Since the assessments are now collected on a calenda~ basis, the annual levy is being split
in half for budgetary reporting purposes.
Set aside in the PDA bank account are beautification funds that have come from the former Flower
Faire account and donations for 1992 Santa photos. Funds total $935.05. The first priority for this money
is new lights for the city's Christmas tree in front of the Valley Museum. The "old lights" will be used to
outline the roof line of the Museum.
Additional beautification projects, as well as PDA supported activities, will be budgeted as needs
arise and funding is obtained.

MEMBERSHIPS:

The Pleasanton Downtown Association holds active membership in the California Downtown
Association and the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce.
