CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION NO. 94-11

RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE ROI-ES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CITY'S ART IN PUBLIC
PLACES COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, at its meeting of December 12, 1989, the City Council adopted Resolution
89-527 which established a five member Art in Public Places Committee for
the purpose of collecting artwork suitable for public places; and

WHEREAS, since the establishment of the Art in Public Places Committee, the
Committee and the City Council have approved specific tasks and
responsibilities for the Committee including a statement of philosophy and
mission statement.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: The City Council does hereby reaffirm its previous action as set forth in
Resolution 89-527 to establish and maintain an Art in Public Places
Committee.

Section 2: The Art in Public Places Committee has established a basic statement of
philosophy describing why art is important to the City of Pleasanton. The
statement of philosophy is:

As communities mature and become more affluent, the community itself
turns toward the greater rewards it as a whole can provide for its citizens.
Typically, communities turn toward increased recreational and cultural
activities as the City's bud8et and household incomes grow.

Pleasanton is becoming more aware of the value of a richer cultural
environment for its citizens to enjoy.
