CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 95-115 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A FORMAL <br /> OItIENTATION AND LEAVING OFFICE PROCESS <br /> FOR COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the members of the City's commissions play an important role in the <br /> development of City policy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an understanding of the role of the commissions, its procedures, key issues, <br /> and the legal responsibilities of commissioners is necessary for <br /> commissioners to effectively discharge their duties; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a formal orientation process for new commissioners will ensure that all <br /> commissioners begin their assignment with at least a common basic <br /> understanding of the key aspects of their role as a commissioner; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize outgoing commissioners for their contributions <br /> to the community; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1: Resolution No. 94-63 (Resolution establishing a formal orientation process <br /> for commissioners) is rescinded. <br /> <br />~: The City shall establish a formal Commissioner Orientation Program, to <br /> include the following components: <br /> <br /> A. An official Oath of Office ceremony, held at a City Council meeting, <br /> if possible. If the commissioner must take his or her seat before the <br /> Council meeting following appointment, a separate Oath of Office <br /> ceremony and reception will be held. <br /> <br /> B. A meeting with the City Manager and key staff members, including <br /> the department head responsible for the commission and the primary <br /> staff contact for the commission, if other than the department head. <br /> The commissioner will review the Commissioner Handbook and be <br /> briefed on: <br /> <br /> <br />
