S TA;:r;c <br /> May 9, 1995 <br /> Parks and Community Services <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Pleasanton School Upper Field Master Plan <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br /> The Park and Recreation Commission recommends approval of <br /> the proposed Master Plan for Pleasanton School Upper <br /> Field. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br /> Staff recommends approval of the proposed Master Plan for <br /> Pleasanton School Upper Field. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: Pleasanton School Upper Field Project is an approved <br /> project budgeted for $272,000. The proposed project <br /> Master Plan includes improvements to the irrigation and <br /> drainage system, rehabilitation of the turf, an improved <br /> lighting system that will accommodate softball or soccer, <br /> the addition of toddler and youth play areas, a lighted <br /> pathway system, casual use picnic areas, and paved <br /> parking areas. The proposed Master Plan addresses the <br /> shortfalls identified by park users while adding <br /> amenities desired by the neighborhood. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Pleasanton School Upper Field is an approximately nine acre <br />park/school site located along Bernal Avenue immediately east of <br />the Pleasanton Unified School District offices. The field was <br />previously heavily used as the play field for the old Pleasanton <br />Elementary School, and later by the Middle School. The only school <br />activity now using the site is Village High School. The property <br />is owned by the District and leased long-term by the City for <br />organized sports and other recreational activities. <br /> <br />This project has been pending for many years and the scope of the <br />project has changed over time. Originally, funds were budgeted to <br />pave the parking area. Later on, deficiencies were noted in the <br />lighting, irrigation and drainage, and the project was expanded to <br /> <br />SR 95:144 <br /> <br /> <br />
