CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 96-68 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PLACING ON THE <br /> NOVEMBER 5, 1996 REGULAR ELECTION A CITY <br /> COUNCIL SPONSORED ADVISORY MEASURE <br /> CONCERNING PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR AN EXCURSION <br /> TRAIN TO DOWNTOWN PLEASANTON, DIRECTING <br /> THE CITY ATTORNEY TO PREPARE AN IMPARTIAL <br /> ANALYSIS OF THE INITIATIVE, AUTHORIZING <br /> ARGUMENTS CONCERNING THE MEASURE, <br /> ALLOWING REBUTTAL ARGUMENTS REGARDING <br /> THE MEASURE, AND REQUESTING ALAMEDA COUNTY <br /> TO CONDUCT THIS ELECTION IN CONJUNCTION WITH <br /> TF[E NOVEMBER 5, 1996 REGULAR ELECTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to California Elections Code §306, the City Council may submit to the <br /> voters an advisory question; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on April 2, 1996, the Council determined to place on the ballot an advisory <br /> measure concerning the level of public support for mending the operation of an <br /> excursion train from Niles-Sunol to downtown Pleasanton; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 18, 1996, Council considered the language to be placed on ballot <br /> concerning this matter; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Elections Code §9282 sets forth the procedures for arguments in favor of or in <br /> opposition to any city measure; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 9285 of the Elections Code sets forth the procedures for rebuttal <br /> argumems. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: That a City Council sponsored advisory measure regarding public support for <br /> extending the operation of an excursion train between Niles Canyon and <br /> Downtown Pleasanton be placed on the ballot for the November 5, 1996 Regular <br /> Election. The measure shall be designated by letter by the Alameda County <br /> Registrar. <br /> <br /> <br />
