Introduction <br /> <br /> Background <br /> <br />City of Pieasanton <br /> <br /> Under the auspices of the City of Pleasanton's Parks & Community Services <br /> Department, the Community Services Division houses the City's professionally- <br /> staffed Civic Arts Program. The City's Civic Arts Program oversees operations <br /> of the 625-seat Amador Theater, produces and presents performances under the <br /> guise of "Civic Arts Presents," administers the City's Public Art program, <br /> manages programs at the Cultural Arts Center, and offers a wide variety of arts <br /> and cultural classes for children, youth, and adults. <br /> <br /> A City Council-appointed Civic Arts Commission was established in 1996 and <br /> consists of five members (and one alternate) who are appointed to four-year <br /> terms. One Commission seat is reserved for a member of the non-profit <br /> Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council and at least two members are designated to be <br /> working mists. The Civic Am Commission's Mission consists of the following <br /> charges: <br /> <br /> · Review and recommend action on Public Art projects <br /> · Encourage commercial, office, and residential projects to incorporate art <br /> within the project design <br /> · Promote art within the City <br /> · Work with arti;t; and the Pleasanton Cultural Artg Council <br /> · Overs,~ the development of a City of Pleasanton Cultural Plan <br /> · Recommend policies and action regarding the City of P!easanton's Civic <br /> Arts Program <br /> · Guide the future direction of cultural enhancement of the City <br /> · D~velop facility n~ds, including the exploration of the need for a <br /> performing/visual arts center and gallery <br /> <br /> AMS Planning &Research 1 <br /> May 1998 <br /> <br /> <br />
