already chosen their assignments during their scheduled times. Those failing to sign-up
will be subject to assignment at the discretion of the Operations Division Commander.
9. No sign-up blocks will be assigned between the hours of 2201 hours and 0559 hours.
10. Implementation of the seniority sign-up program will be the responsibility of the
Operations Division Commander or his designee. The PPOA Board of Directors or their
designees will assist the Operations Division Commander in the facilitation of the seniority
shift sign-up program.
Special Considerations
Canine officers will be included in the program. One canine officer must be assigned to
each watch, when practical. Due to the limited number of officers assigned to this special
~~ assignment and the need for handler and canine experience, movement among watches is
mandatory. Canine Officers may not stay on the same watch for longer than one (1) year.
Failure to show movement will be grounds for the Chief of Police or his designee to deny
one or more of these officers' watch preferences and make watch assignments.
2. The scheduling matrix for patrol will include Special Response Team (SRT) and Field
Training Officer (FTO) positions. There will be a minimum staffing requirement of SRT
and FTO positions for each watch. Generally, this will be one SRT and two FTO
positions. These positions will have to be filled by officers deemed by the Chief of Police
to be active FTO and/or SRT members. One officer may fill both positions on a watch,
should the officer qualify in both assignments.
3
