The operator shall comply with Sections 17200 and 17500 <br /> of the California Business and Professions Code, relating <br /> to fraudulent or unfair business practices, or false or <br /> misleading statements. <br /> <br />-. 2. Specific California Vehicle Code Requirements Relating to Tow <br /> Trucks. <br /> <br /> A. Summarized California Vehicle Code Sections: <br /> <br /> 1. Unlawful A~vertisina (2~). "It is unlawful for any <br /> person to display any sign, mark, or advertisement <br /> indicating an official connection with either the <br /> Department of Motor Vehicles or the Department of <br /> California Highway Patrol unless such person has <br /> lawful authority, permission, or right to make such <br /> display." <br /> <br /> 2. Tow Truck (615). "(a) A "Tow Truck" is a motor <br /> vehicle which has been altered or designed and <br /> equipped for and primarily used in the business of <br /> towing vehicles by means of a crane, hoist, tow bar, <br /> tow line, or dolly or is otherwise exclusively used <br /> to render assistance to other vehicles. A "rollback <br /> carrier" designed to carry up to two vehicles is <br /> also a tow truck. A trailer for hire that is being <br /> used to transport a vehicle is a tow truck. "Tow <br /> Truck" does not include an automobile dismantlers' <br /> vehicle." <br /> <br /> NOTE: A vehicle which is not exclusively used in the business <br /> of towing vehicles nor used to render assistance to other <br /> vehicles is not a "tow truck" as defined above and need <br /> not comply with the requirements of the California <br /> Vehicle Code Sections cited in this attachment. Such a <br /> vehicle shall not be equipped with the flashing amber <br /> warning lights permitted on "tow trucks," and is not <br /> entitled to special parking privileges under Section <br /> 22513.1 <br /> <br /> 3. Portable Dolly (4014). "Any portable or collapsible <br /> dolly carried in a tow truck or in a truck used by <br /> an automobile dismantler and used upon a highway <br /> exclusively for towing disabled vehicles is exempt <br /> from registration." <br /> <br /> 4o License Plates (5201). "(a) The rear license plate <br /> on a tow truck may be mounted on the left-hand side <br /> of the mast assembly at the rear of the cab or the <br /> vehicle, not less than 12 inches nor more than 90 <br /> inches from the ground." <br /> <br /> -B 4- <br /> <br /> <br />
