Ms. Decker presented the staff report and described the scope of this application. She
displayed the site plan, grading plan, and landscaping plan on the overhead. screen. She
noted that the applicant worked closely with the Fire Safety Department to ensure that the
adequate radii within the site and drive-through were made available so that it could be
easily traveled. StafF included a condition to either have an Opticon or K_rlox Box placed
on the site for access. Staff recommended that the Planning Commission approve this
project subject to the conditions of approval listed on Exhibit B and make the appropriate
findings within the staff report.
In response to an inquiry by Comtriissioner Roberts regarding whether the doors would
be visible from off-site, Ms. Decker replied that she did not believe they would be
visible; whatever color the doors will be, they will stand out for a person on the site.
There will be no chance to mistake where the storage is. She added that other door colors
could be considered and that a color palette was available.
Ms. Nerland noted that staff proposed that the first sentence in Condition 26 be revised to
state, "The subject building shall not be converted to another use without the prior
approval of the City Traffic Engineer and Planning Director," deleting the phrase
"including a permitted use."
THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED.
Doug French, applicant, 770 San Ramon Valley Boulevard, Danville, noted that he
represented both the builder (G'ubix Constructions and the future owner All-Safe Self=
Storage. He thanked staff for their thorough work and reviewed the background of this
proj ect_ He described the accessibility of the building with respect to the grading plans
and noted that because of the grading, there would be no stairs or elevators. Both levels
would be accessible by cars.
Mr_ French noted that the color of the blue doors became more purple through the color
copying processing. _ He noted that teal was their second choice, and they would prefer to
leave the Seattle Blue as part of the project. He noted that darker color had held up well
in other projects, such as a 12-year-old project in Dublin, and that it was a commonly
used corporate color.
Mr_ French noted that with respect to Condition 27, which was recently added, he hoped
that there were no plans to put a median on Sunol Boulevard. If that were to occur, he
hoped to be able to discuss those plans. He noted that Condition 80 states that prior to
issuance of the building permit, the developer must pay the City the development's
prorated share of cost associated with the underground utility lines on Sunol Boulevard.
1-Ie requested that be deferred for a year after occupancy because the work would not be
completed in the near-term. He added that 600 linear feet of undergrounding must occur
continuously before the project may be done.
Kevin Caose, 871 Sycamore Road, noted that he would not see this project, but would be
affected by the traffic. He was concerned about the blind corner on Sonoma Drive.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES August 7 O, 2005 Page 14 of 19
