provide screening between the houses, particularly for the deck- He also proposed that frosted glass be used for the transom window and that a wall be required on the side of the deck that faces the Crofton home to direct the view from the deck to the rear of the Diaz's yard rather than to the Croftons' backyard. He further requested that should the addition be approved, the Croftons be allowed to install a seven-foot tall fence for privacy~ Mr_ Crofton questioned Condition No. 6, which required the applicant to use the same materials as those of the existing residence- He noted that the Diaz's home has shake roof but the addition would use composition roof- He also inquired if Mr_ Diaz, who is an engineer, can approve his own plans, and noted that the site plan does not show what trees would be actually removed. Ms_ Nancy Cro Ron, 4757 Peaceful Lane, stated that she concurred with her husband's statements. She requested that Condition No. 7 be amended to exclude Saturday from the allowed construction days, thereby limiting construction days to Monday through Friday. Bob and Joyce Diaz, 4769 Peaceful Lane, stated that, in response to Mr. Crofton's privacy concern, the addition would provide a sufficient amount of privacy. He noted that half of the windows currently facing the CroRons' residence will be eliminated with the addition. He then showed some photographs on the screen and explained the proposed additions in detail- He noted that the existing deck which overlooks the entire Cro Ron backyard has been part of the 20-year-old house and that this would now be enclosed to build an exercise room, and a new deck farther out but in the same elevation would be added to preserve an existing window. Joyce Diaz explained that the proposal is to enclose a notch in the garage to provide an exercise room where the deck currently sits. Shc indicated that the new second-story window is a clerestory window to be located six feet from the floor level, solely to provide light in the room; the window on the first-floor would be at the approximate height of the fence and, therefore, would not provide any view towards the Croftons' backyard. She added the proposed deck well be a private deck and not for entertaining. She stated that the City's Landscape Architect was aware that three trees were to be removed for the addition- She indicated that one of the trees is actually outside the construction area but too close to the project such that it will eventually die because its roots will need to be cut. Ms_ Diaz informed the Commission that the negative feelings between the neighbors go both ways- She noted that their proposed addition is small and they have plenty of trees. She added that she did not feel their project is a significant imposition on the C=ro Bons and would have no real impact on them. THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED.
