EMERGENCY OYEKA"PIONS <br />Page V-18 <br />Commissioner Blar~lc indicated that he would like to see CERT training included <br />to encourage cornmunily preparedness_ <br />SEISMIC SAFETY <br />Pro dram 12 <br />in response to Commissioner Blank's comment that building hoirics 50 feet from an <br />active fault seems too close and inquiry where the number came from, Ms. Stern replied <br />that it was State law. <br />Commissioner Blank proposed that it be increased to at least 7 00 feet aimed that <br />construction should not be encouraged in the area; Commissioner Roberts concurred that <br />the area should be increased. <br />Mr_ Grubstick advised that the active fault trace setback requirement is related to where <br />the ground ruptures and. not to intensity of shaking; violent shaking could take place as <br />far as 500 feet and farther. <br />Commissioner Pearce stated that this is different from prohibiting construction, which <br />would cause problems since it is beyond what State law requires. <br />Pro Aram 2.1 <br />Commissioner Blank questioned why development might be proposed in areas with <br />"extreme" seismic shaking_ He stated that this would cause more problems if an <br />earthquake occurred.
