The
City's Capital Replacement Program allocates funding to replace aging street lights throughout
the City. The street lights in Valley Trails are still functional, however, several have fallen
down, many are leaning, have peeling paint, and have diminished light output due to age. The
photograph below shows a typical street light on Valley Trails Drive,

This is the City's first street light replacement
project. Staff has been working with street light
vendors to identify replacement products that will
improve street and sidewalk lighting while
reducing night sky impacts, reducing pole
maintenance problems and improving
maintenance access. After reviewing available
products and material costs, staff installed five
demonstration street lights on South Valley Trails
Drive to give the residents an opportunity to
provide feedback on the look of the different
street light poles and fixtures. A notice was
mailed to all residents of the Valley Trails
neighborhood, asking residents to review the
demonstration street lights and vote for the styles
that they preferred, The residents had a strong
preference for the lantern style fixture and the
black pole that is "Street light E" shown in
Attachment A.

SR:06:067
Page 2 of6
