Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

Pimlico Turnout

As part of the City's Capital Improvement Program, a reserve was established for the Pimlico
Drive Turnout and Water Transmission Line (Project 011012). In FY 2001-2002 the reserve
was initiated with an appropriation of $100,000 from the Water Expansion Fund, with
subsequent appropriations in following years accumulating in the amount of $1,479,000 in the
2004-2005 fiscal year. Water supply "turnout" facilities are locations where water is extracted
from Zone 7 water transmission pipeline. The extraction point location is in close proximity to
the Tassajara Water Tank and the existing Zone 7 distribution lines. The turnout station
provides for the metering of water from Zone 7 and regulates the flow and water pressure at
which it is delivered. The Pimlico Drive Turnout and Water Transmission Line project provides
for improving balanced hydraulic water pressures through the water distribution lines and better
utilization of the existing Tassajara Reservoir's storage capacity. Included in the project are
provisions for the injection of fluoride to the domestic water supply within the turnout's
building.

I?

Proposed Turnout
Stalion

PROJECT LOCATION

Pimlico Turnout Station and water transmission line

SR 06:051
