Accept the attached proposal from George Miers and Associates of
Moraga, California, for architectural and engineering design
services, at a cost not-to-exceed $33,790.00.

2. Authorize staff to proceed with a formal contract for Consultant
Services with George Miers and Associates for the subject project.

SUMMARY: In recent years, the volume of business within the Police Department's
Dispatch Center has necessitated staffing levels at minimally 3
personnel for the greatest portion of all 24-hour periods, with peak
periods staffed at between 4-5 dispatchers. Additionally, with the
emergence of new technology and equipment (including automated
vehicle locator (A VL) monitors, voice over internet protocol, wireless
911, CAD mapping, GIS systems, TTY integration for hearing
impaired, alarm monitoring systems, and building security monitors),
that has recently been brought into the Dispatch Center, the area has
become cramped without adequate workspace. As the Police
Department attempts to accommodate the necessary personnel and the
additional technology to adequately serve the public, it has found that
there is a lack of effective operating room, making it necessary to
increase the physical size of the Dispatch Center.

SR 06:019
