slle;aCI <br />nouaby <br />Public Works <br />Public Works <br />Public Works <br />Public Works <br />c <br />O <br />C <br />N <br />95a <br />2 <br />0 <br />a <br />a <br />J <br />L <br />x <br />b <br />x <br />Mitigation Strategy <br />Install portable facilities (such as hoses, pumps, <br />emergency generators, or other equipment) to allow <br />pipelines to bypass failure zones such as fault rupture <br />areas, areas of liquefaction, and other ground failure <br />areas (using a priority scheme if funds are not available <br />for installation at all needed locations). <br />Install earthquake- resistant connections when pipes <br />enter and exit bridges. <br />Comply with all applicable building and fire codes, as <br />well as other regulations (such as state requirements <br />for fault, landslide, and liquefaction investigations in <br />particular mapped areas) when constructing or <br />significantly remodeling infrastructure facilities. <br />Clarify to workers in critical facilities and emergency <br />personnel, as well as to elected officials and the public, <br />the extent to which the facilities are expected to <br />perform only at a life safety level (allowing for the safe <br />evacuation of personnel) or are expected to remain <br />functional following an earthquake. <br />Examine the feasibility of developing a water -borne <br />transportation "system" comprised mainly of relatively <br />inexpensive barges across the Bay for use in the <br />event of major earthquakes.
