<br />r <br /> <br />'\ <br /> <br /> <br />41 <br /> <br />'\. <br /> <br />pLEASANTONc <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />January 17,2006 <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR <br />THE TRI-VALLEY INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM <br />(ITS) CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br />meeting of January 17,2006: <br /> <br />1. Approve the City's participation in the Tri-valley ITS Corridor <br />Project. <br /> <br />2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the Memorandum of <br />Understanding for Tri-valley ITS Corridor Management. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: The Alameda County Congestion Management Agency is currently <br />designing the eastbound 1-580 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) <br />Project, due to break ground in 2006. An initial phase of this project <br />involves the installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) <br />equipment along the corridor to help manage traffic congestion during <br />the more invasive freeway construction phases. This equipment <br />includes changeable message signs, video monitoring equipment, ramp <br />metering signals, and other communications and monitoring hardware. <br /> <br />This equipment will be used to inform motorists of changing driving <br />conditions and travel times as construction takes place relating to the 1- <br />580 HOV Lane Project, Isabel Interchange, Route 84 Pigeon Pass <br />widening, and Isabel Avenue widening projects. The equipment will <br />remain in place after these projects are completed for the purpose of <br /> <br />SR 06:002 <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
