The Metropolitan Transportation Commission has a
computer based Regional Rideshare Program that it has offered to the City
to help make the Rides to School Program operate better. In order for the
City to use the program, the MTC has requested that the City sign a
Waiver of Claims and Indemnification Agreement. If the agreement is
approved, there is no cost for the City to use this program.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

Rides to School is an interactive partnership bet"\Veen the City, Pleasanton Unified School
District and parents to plan and manage school traffic at individual schools. An essential "\Vay to alleviate school
traffic is by reducing the number of vehicles entering and leaving the school. This can be
accomplished by forming parent-led carpools, "\Valkpools or bikepools.

The pooling program matches students from the same school. Once the necessary information is
entered into a database, a matchlist of parents/students can be generated. Personal information
is kept confidential.
