The building has been <br />occupied since 1984 by the Historical Society for the purpose of operating <br />the Museum on Main Streeto The Lease Agreement has a term of five <br />years and anticipates continued use for this purposeo <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of'the City Council: <br /> <br />The City uwns a 4,716 square foot building at 603 Main Streeto Built in 1914 ~ith funds donated <br />by the Pleasanton's Women's Improvement Club, it once housed the old To"Wn Hall, the Police <br />Department, and the first free library in the City of Pleasanton. In 1984 the City leased the <br />vacant building to the Historical Society for the purpose of providing a historical museumo The <br />Historical Society has occupied the building and operated the museum since that timeo <br /> <br />The current lease "With the Historical Society has expired and is out of date in terms of insurance <br />and operating requirementso As a result, staff ~orked cooperatively "With the Historical Society to <br />develop a ne~ lease agreemento <br /> <br />The Historical Society "Was founded on April 18, 1963 with goals to protect, preserve, and <br />interpret the history of the valley 0 The Museum On Main Street offers rotating exhibits, regularly <br />scheduled lectures, in-house school presentations, and themed events 0 In 2004 the museum <br /> <br />SR 06:009 <br />Page 1 <br />
