He would like the entire sidewalk to be widened at the <br />same time. He believed there was a problem with the configuration of Dennis Drive, and <br />noted that 3807 Picard Avenue and the house across the street were pushed further into <br />the street, which would create a jog in the sidewalk, ending at a wall. He suggested that a <br />temporary stop sign be placed at the end of Dennis Drive so that the children may cross <br />the street on the way to school- <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that the City has never installed temporary stop signs- <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Maas, Mr. Iserson noted that the City could <br />not force athird-party property owner to dedicate land and give up land For a public <br />street. He noted that the City Council could go through a condemnation procedure after a <br />public hearing, but he did not recall a case where the City had gone through that process. <br />Patrick Greenan, 3867 Picard Avenue, would like the home on Lot 2 to be compatible <br />with Walnut Glen. He expressed concern about the safety issues with respect to the <br />sidewalk ending at a fence, and believed that unless a stop sign was installed, a child <br />would eventually be hurt in that area~ <br />Michelle Needham, 3866 Picard Avenue, expressed concern about the safety issues about <br />the pedestrian. routes to the school. She noted that because of the narrowness of the street, <br />drivers had driven over her front lawn in the past. She noted that Walnut Glen was a very <br />desirable neighborhood of 32 homes, and she did not object to a new home being added <br />to the community. She would like the design of the new home to blend with the rest of <br />the street. She expressed concern about the construction traffic, and noted that it may <br />pose a danger to the schoolchildren. <br />Commissioner Roberts believed that property was large enough so that the constn~ction <br />traffic would be able to park on-site. <br />Ms. Needham noted that they had speed bumps installed on the road. She had been told <br />when she bought her horse that Dennis Drive would not go through. <br />Commissioner Maas noted that a narrow street oRen provided a false sense of security for <br />children walking to school. <br />Cri sta Shapiro, 3807 Picard Avenue, cited Page 4 of 1 O of the staff report, which stated <br />that neighbors who spoke to staff had requested that Dennis Drive be con-apleted. She had <br />told staff that she did not want the street completed or widened, and believed that the <br />narrow streets should remain. She believed that the street widening would exacerbate an <br />already complicated safety problem.
