He felt <br />that the Commissioners should have visited both homes. <br />Chairperson Arkin invited the applicant to respond; Mr. Crofton declined the opportunity. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br />In response to Mr_ Couto's comment that all but one Commissioner visited the CroRon's <br />home, Commissioner Maas noted that the Diaz's were not home at the time she visited <br />the applicants' home, but that she had leR her business card in the Diaz's door. <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that she stopped by the Diaz's home as well when they <br />were not home. <br />Chairperson Arkin noted that he had been contacted by the Diaz's, and made an <br />appointment to meet with them. He believed that from downstairs, a minimal amount of <br />sky view was lost. From upstairs, he observed that there was a view from the hallway, but <br />not from any bedroom. He did not see a significant impact from the patio, and did not <br />believe there were any view or shade issues. He would like to see the massing of the <br />south wall reduced with some architecture detail. <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that this applicants' home and the Diaz's home are both <br />two-story houses, and believed that this addition would blend well in the neighborhood. <br />She was aware of several additions in this neighborhood, and noted that even some of the <br />one-story homes had high pitched roofs. <br />Chairperson Arkin did not believe that the basement square footage should be factored <br />into the mass of the house. <br />Chairperson Arkin supported the application, and asked that the applicant work with staff <br />to break up the mass of the south wall. <br />Coii'~.inissioner Sullivan advised that he visited the site, but did not meet with the <br />applicant or the neighbors, and added that while atwo-story home would fit the <br />neighborhood, he believed that the second story addition would be an impact for the <br />Diaz's_ He did not believe this was a hardship situation for the applicants, and would like <br />to see additional compromises made with the Diaz's_ He could not support this <br />application because the application seemed to go the CroRons' way. <br />Commissioner Maas believed that Chairperson Arkin's suggestion would help mitigate <br />the massing, and that the addition of the trees would help. <br />Commissioner Roberts mov¢d to approve PADR-729 as r¢comm¢ad¢d by staff with <br />the following modifications: reduce the width of the pleating strip to four feet from <br />sev¢a f¢¢t; the inclusion of Mr_ Crofton's language that the r¢quir¢m¢nt for a soils <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES June 11, 2003 Page 9 <br />
