In response to CJhairperson Arkin's inquiry regarding advertising, Mr. Kierstead replied <br />that they plai~iied to advertise locally, but that the specific marketing plan was not fully <br />developed. Chairperson Arkin expressed interest in what driving directions would be <br />advertised, and how they would impact City streets. <br />Ms. Knutson noted that their website used the Park District's recommended directions. <br />Mr. Kierstead advised that the 4.2 million gallon water usage was based on the First year <br />only. Once the ponds are filled, they will not be drained. He described the reuse of the <br />water for irrigation purposes, under the guidance o£Zone 7. He noted that they would use <br />a maximum of 25,000 gallons per day, which was the equivalent of 2.5 million gallons <br />during the 100 day period of operation. It would not exceed that amount of usage, which <br />equaled the use of 12 households. <br />Ms_ Knutson advised that they were doing a feasibility study regarding the use of <br />photovoltaic panels for power generation and storage at the site. <br />Ms. Knutson noted that native flora was a significant part of the landscaping plan, but she <br />did not know the drought tolerance of those plants. <br />Commissioner Sedlak noted that he would like more information on zero-scape plants for <br />this facility. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Sedlak, Mr. Kierstead replied that when the <br />parking lot is full, the park would close to new vi sitors_ He noted that there was sufficient <br />parking to accommodate 4,000 visitors. He noted that they had worked with the Park <br />District with respect to possible overflow parking. <br />Commissioner Sedlak expressed concern about walk-in guests that would stretch the <br />capacity of the park, and inquired about the point where the park would be closed to new <br />guests. <br />Ms. Knutson replied that the amenities were being built to a 4,000-person capacity. They <br />did not expect to have more than 1,100 to 1,200 people, and their peak feasibility is well <br />under 4,000. Their planned staffing was not designed For 4,000 people after complete <br />buildout. They planned to work with the Fire Department to establish proper capacities <br />for the area, as well as working with the incoming management staff to determine the <br />proper staff to occupant load ratio. Once that number is determined, that would be a <br />cutoff for incoming guests. <br />Mr. Kierstead noted that he planned to hire one of the preeminent oft3cials in the water <br />park association to be their onsite manager; he has wide experience in a number of parks <br />in crowd control, safety, and other issues. <br />Commissioner Sullivan suggested that high efficiency motors be used to pump the water.
