The following summarizes <br />those concems. <br /> <br />Weare reassured to know that Staff recommendations, if adopted, W'ill not affect the <br />current CIP reserve for the Kottinger Creek Restoration Project. However, if only used <br />as an example, this project W'as inaccurately described. The result W'as its miscategori- <br />zation as Priority 5-Con'llnunity Enhancement. Using a correct project description, it <br />should be Priority 3~Dual Purpose. <br /> <br />Consider the project measured against Staff-prescribed criteria: <br /> <br />1. Address a connnunity need and provide econoDIic developDIents to the City <br />Pleasanton needs diverse educational and recreational opportunities to address the diverse <br />interests of its residents and visitors. Therefore, Pleasanton needs a place where people <br />can go to experience and leam about creek life. This project W'ill provide the City W'ith a <br />restoration demonstration creek site in a nature park. Importantly, Kottinger Creek's <br />location offers easy walking access to dOW'lltoW'll restaurants and other businesses, which <br />will benefit both visitors and the economy. <br /> <br />2. Eligibility f'or a financial grant <br />The Kottinger Creek Restoration Project may be eligible for a financial grant. <br />Application has been made to the Califomia River ParkW'ays Grant Program. <br /> <br />3. A strong DIulti-purpose f'ocus that benefits the cODIDIunity at large <br />. Education <br />One of the Project's key objectives is education. The plan features 2.1 acres of riparian <br />habitat with interpretive elements for children and adults. When completed, it W'ill <br />function as an outdoor classroom for schools in Pleasanton and the rest of the Tri Valley. <br />Byproducts are a Creek Maintenance and Monitoring Guide and training opportunities <br />for both City employees and the general public. <br />
