<br />loW' bid amount of $137,424.00. The project is noW' complete and <br />ready for release of final payment and retention monies. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The installation of the traffic signal at the intersection of Bernal A venue and the Fire <br />Station No.4 exit driveW'ay W'as part of the construction of the neW' Fire Station No.4 <br />building located just east of V alley Avenue on Bernal A venue. This signal provides a <br />safe egress for Fire Department vehicles onto Bernal A venue. <br /> <br />This signal W'as designed to minimize delay on Bernal A venue by providing a <br />continuous green light on Bernal A venue except when Fire vehicles are leaving the <br />station. The Fire Station W'as designed/located to provide quick access to Bemal <br />Avenue to minimize response time. As such, the driveW'ay is an exit only and is <br />controlled by a remote push button inside the Fire Station. In addition to the push <br />button, the signal is equipped W'ith Opticom Emergency Vehicle Preemption, as well as <br />standard video detection to ensure that the Fire vehicles exiting the driveW'ay receive a <br />green light. <br /> <br />The Fire Station driveW'ay is aligned to mllllIDize the impact to the trees in the median. <br />Minor median paving W'as required to connect the eastbound lanes and W'estbound lanes <br />of Bernal A venue. Left and right turns from Bernal A venue into the Fire Station <br />driveW'ay are prohibited, as are any V-turns at the intersection. Vpon return to the Fire <br />Station, the Fire vehicles have access via Oak Vista Way and Whispering Oaks Way. <br /> <br />At this time, the project is complete and acceptable to City Staff, and is ready for <br />release of final payment to Dan Electric and also release of retention monies due 30 <br />days after the Notice of Completion is fIled. <br /> <br />BUDGET <br /> <br />The funding appropriated in February 2005 W'ith the City Council aW'ard of contract to <br />Dan Electric W'as $200,000 for the construction phase of the project. The base bid <br />received from Dan Electric W'as $137,424 and the total amount of approved Change <br />Orders W'as $13,017.57, for a grand total of $150,441.57, W'hich is W'ithin the budgeted <br />amount of $157,487.27, for base bid and contingency as approved by the City Council <br />on February 15, 2005. <br /> <br />SR 05:310 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />
