The anticipated schedule calls <br />for construction of these improvements in the summer of 2006. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Engineering Division of the Public Works Department performs engineering studies and <br />design for Capital Improvement Projects either through in-house staff or through contracts <br />W'ith outside consulting firms. This project W'as selected as a candidate for consultant services <br />due to its complexity and the need for additional engineering support to meet the project's <br />schedule. <br /> <br />PRO.JECT INFORMATION AND CONSULTANTS SCOPE OF WORK <br /> <br />The Vineyard Avenue Median Streetscape and Pavement Overlay Project, CIP No. 055003, <br />generally consists of a 1.5" rubberized asphalt overlay improvement on Vineyard Avenue <br />betW'een Bernal Avenue and Clara Lane, and on Bernal Avenue between Tawny Drive and the <br />Bemal Avenue's south bridge abutment at Arroyo del Valle. In addition to the overlay, the <br />Vineyard Avenue street improvements W'ill include a 28' travel W'idth on the north side and a <br />20' travel W'idth on the south side. In betW'een the east-W'est travel lanes will be neW' raised <br />concrete landscaped median islands (CIP No. 048051). In addition, this project W'ill include <br />the removal of the two roundabouts W'hich W'ill consist of removing the reinforced concrete <br />circles and installing conventional roadW'ay intersections W'ith stop signs and left turn pockets. <br /> <br />CONSULTING FIRM SELECTION PROCEDURE <br /> <br />A total of seven Pleasanton firms providing engineering services W'ere selected from the City's <br />consultant database and were asked to submit responses to a Request for Proposal for Capital <br />Improvement Projects. <br /> <br />The firms contacted included: Bellecci & Associates; Berryman & Henigar; Creegan & <br />D' Angelo Consulting Engineers; Kier & Wright Civil Engineers, Inc; Kimley-Hom and <br />Associates; MacKay & Somps Civil Engineers, Inc; and Ruggeri-Jensen-Azar & Associates. <br /> <br />Four firms responded to the Request for Proposal W'ith Statements of Qualifications and <br />Scopes of Work. The firm of Bellecci & Associates, and Kimley-Horn & Associates W'ere <br />selected for further intervieW's. FolloW'ing the intervieW's, staff determined that Bellecci & <br />Associates W'as best suited for the design of the Vineyard Avenue Median Streetscape and <br />Pavement Overlay Project. <br /> <br />SR:05:317 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />
