III ;;i;; I <br /> <br />pLEASANTONc <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />4D <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />December 6, 2005 <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />REPLACEMENT OF TEN TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL <br />CABINETS <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />SR:05:334 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the folloW'ing action at <br />the meeting of December 6, 2005. <br /> <br />1) Authorize the City Manager to sign a Purchase Order in the <br />amount of $150,889.70 to purchase 10 traffic signal control <br />cabinets from Econolite Control Products, Incorporated. <br /> <br />2) Authorize the expenditure of up to $200,889.70 from the Traffic <br />Signal Asset Replacement account to fund: <br />a) The purchase of the cabinets ($150,889.70); <br />b) Installation of the cabinets ($30,000.00); <br />c) Contingency to cover potential labor and material costs <br />($20,000). <br /> <br />The City currently operates and maintains traffic signals throughout <br />the City. The mini-computers that control many of these signals <br />are housed in steel cabinets, some of W'hich W'ere installed decades <br />ago. Many of these cabinets are rusting and include printed circuit <br />board technology that has become unmaintainable due to a lack of <br />replacement parts. Staff recommends the initial replacement of ten <br />of the cabinets that are in the W'orst condition, and which are used <br />to operate some of the City's most critical intersections. Staff is <br />recommending the purchase of these cabinets from Econolite <br />Control Products, Incorporated, W'hich has supplied all such <br />
