Proposed Park Renovation Fund Projects
FY 200512006
Renovation Proiects
These projects would provide for the replacement of an existing footbridge, replenish the playground protective
surfacing in playgrounds, renovate several existing irrigation systems, replace and restore declining shrub plantings
in Bicentennial Park, repair existing concrete in various park locations, and establish a replacement fund for street
median landscaping. A combination of both in-house personnel and contractors would be used to complete the
projects.
$45,000 Preserve Open Space Pedestrian Bridge Replacement
This project would replace an existing pedestrian foot bridge that spans Gold Creek and allows
access to City trails and open space property to the north of the Moller Ranch Development. These
trails were intended for both pedestrian and equestrian use, but the existing bridge is too narrow to
allow equestrian use. In addition, the open space property is currently not accessible to Police or
maintenance vehicles needed to patrol and maintain the area.
$25,000 Playground Surfacing-Wood Chip Mulch
This project would provide funds for the addition of playground wood chip surfacing as needed for
the 53 playgrounds located throughout the park system. To comply with National Playground
Safety Standards, adequate mulch depth is required at all times to provide cushioning for falls.
$7,000 Amaral Park
This project would convert several existing planter area drip irrigation zones to shrub sprays and
bubblers. Funding of $5,000 was previously approved for this project in the 2004/2005 Park
Renovation Fund, and the additional allocation is needed to complete the work.
$2,750 Valley Trails Park
This project would convert several existing planter area drip irrigation zones to shrub sprays and
bubblers. Similar to the item above, additional funding is needed to complete all proposed work.
$5,000 Bicentennial Park
This project would replace existing shrubs that have declined with age, and add new mulch to all
shrub planters. The additional $5,000 (along with $15,000 previously allocated for the project)
would provide sufficient funding to complete the work.
$15,000 Sidewalk Repairs
This project would provide funds throughout the park system for the repair of miscellaneous
sidewalk hazard repairs, as they occur. Work would be performed by a contractor.
$14,000 Street Median Plant Replacements
This project would provide funds for the replacement of plant material or shrubs in the City's street
medians. Work would be performed by in-house staff on an as-needed basis during the winter
months.
$113,750 Total Renovations
