<br /> tlJ CONTINUING LIFE ATTACHMENT 3 <br /> COMMUNITIES <br />Stoneridge Creek, Pleasanton <br />Project Description <br />By Continuing Life Communities <br />September 14,2005 <br />Page 1 of3 <br />The project will be a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), as defined <br />in the California Continuing Care Statutes, Health and Safety Code, Chapter 10 of <br />Division 2, sections 1770 - 1793.62. <br />The project will contain facilities for independent living in apartment style and <br />attached homes (though constructed to a higher occupancy code than conventional <br />residential housing), assisted living facilities including a portion specially designed for <br />memory support, and skilled nursing facilities staffed for 24 hour nursing care. <br />The skilled nursing facilities are licensed by the state Department of Health <br />Services; all of the otlIer living facilities are licensed as Residential Care Facility for the <br />Elderly (RCFE), an assisted living license, by the state Department of Social Services. <br />The project must also obtain a license, called a certificate of authority to enter into <br />continuing care contracts, from the Continuing Care Contracts Branch ofthe Department <br />of Social Services. <br />There are over 70 CCRC's in California. Continuing Life Communities and its <br />affiliates have three (3) in southern California which can serve as laboratory examples for <br />the proposed project. <br />A principal attraction ofCCRC's to the elderly population is tlIe state regulated <br />continuing care contract which provides full service retirement for residents and spouses <br />to accommodate aging in place witlIout tlIe need for disruptive moves from one location <br />to anotlIer, witlIout tlIe obligations and responsibilities of home ownership, incorporating <br />the best features of full service long term care insurance. <br />Aspects of the continuing care contract include: an independent residence to <br />occupy as long as tlIe resident is independently capable; a large package of services and <br />amenities including security, food service, transportation, activities; and availability and <br />access to higher levels of nursing care as long and as often as needed with tlIe cost <br />included, The contract obligates tlIe provider for the balance of the resident's natural life. <br />Residents enjoy an enhanced sense of security and peace of mind, a better life and longer <br />life. <br />Residents pay for continuing care with an entrance fee and a monthly fee. Both <br />vary with tlIe size and location ofresidence selected.
