Angela <br /> Street as the highest priority location for a public restroom in <br /> the Downtown. <br />SUMMARY: When the City Council considered the plans for the Veterans Memorial <br /> Building, it directed that no public restroom be provided in that facility but <br /> indicated that public restrooms are a high priority for the Downtown. The <br /> Council requested that staff return with a report addressing alternative <br /> potential restroom locations. This report presents several options for public <br /> restrooms within the Downtown commercial district. <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Downtown Specific Plan contains a policy to "construct public restrooms (including one <br />with family facilities) on Main Street and at Delucchi Park." The Pleasanton Downtown <br />Association (PDA) has long believed that providing public restrooms is a high priority for the <br />Downtown so that convenient facilities would be available to visitors. The lack of public <br />restrooms can discourage visitors from staying in the Downtown to shop and pursue other <br />activities. As a result, the Council requested staff to prepare a report addressing potential <br />locations for a restroom in the Downtown. Staff has asked the PDA to provide input into this <br />discussion, and it has responded with a list of its preferences for restrooms. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Staff has considered several publicly-owned sites which may be appropriate for public restrooms. <br />In addition, staff has considered ways that a restroom could be constructed within a short <br />SR05:101 <br />Page 1 of 5 <br />
