The Resource Agency is soliciting applications from public agencies and nonprofit organizations.
Staff intends to use the grant proceeds to help fund the Kottinger Creek Restoration Project. The
project provides for the restoration of Kottinger Creek by providing a meandering streambed, the
removal of invasive plant species, the creation of a floodplain, the removal of storm culverts and
the installation of bridges. The project is intended to promote wildlife habitat and create a more
natural stream versus a storm water conveyance channel. As part of the 2005 CIP budget
process, the Kottinger Creek Restoration Project was considered a high priority, and additional
funding of $800,000 was added to the project, bringing the total funding to approximately $l.3M
dollars. The concept plans for the Creek Restoration have been approved by the Parks and
Recreation Commission and City Council.

As part of the grant application process, public agencies must first provide a Resolution from its
governing body approving the filing of a request for funding under the California River Parkways
Grant Program.

FISCAL IMPACT

Receipt of the allocated grant funds would augment the existing project funding and provide
revenues needed for the Kottinger Creek Restoration Project. This particular grant program does
not require any type of City matching funds. The application deadline is October 18, 2005.

Respectfully Submitted,

a -ZJL

Rob Wilson
Director of Public Works

~~

Nelson Fialho
City Manager

Attachment: Resolution

SR:05:280
Page 2 of2
