Adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit an <br />application for grant funding under the California River Parkways Grant <br />Program administered by the Office of the Secretary of Resources. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />The City of Pleasanton is currently preparing a grant application for funding <br />under the California River Parkways Grant Program. The program is <br />administered by the Office of the Secretary for Resources. Funding is <br />available to acquire, restore, protect and develop river parkways, through the <br />Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of <br />2002-Proposition 50. Staff intends to use the grant proceeds to help fund the <br />Kottinger Creek Restoration Project. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />California voters approved Proposition 50, the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal <br />Beach Protection Act of 2002 on November 5, 2002. It added to the California Water Code, <br />Section 79541, authorizing the legislature to appropriate $100 million for the acquisition, <br />restoration, protection and development of River Parkways. The Grant is a competitive grant <br />program and open to public organizations and nonprofit organizations. <br /> <br />SR:05:280 <br />Page I of2 <br />
