/ ,
68
pLEASANTONo City Council
Staff Report
October 4, 2005 September 20, 2005
Parks and Community Services
SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF ARCHITECTURAL STYLE FOR
DELUCCHI PARK PUBLIC RESTROOM, PROJECT NO. 038030
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council consider the two (2) different architectural styles for a
public restroom structure in Delucchi Park as prepared by ELS Architects,
and authorize staff to proceed with either the historically themed "Railroad
design, or a more contemporary style of architecture.
SUMMARY: Two (2) different architectural designs have been prepared by the project
Consultant, ELS Architects, for the public restroom to be located in
Delucchi Park. Both designs contain the same fixture counts and other
amenities, and can reasonably be constructed within the City's established
construction budget for the project. The Council is asked to review both
proposed designs and recommend one for further design development.
Honorable Mayor and Members ofthe City Council:
BACKGROUND
At its meeting of April 19, 2005, the Council considered a variety of locations for a new public
restroom building in the Downtown area. After receiving public testimony and reviewing
conceptual design options, the Council selected the southwest comer of Delucchi Park (near W.
Angela Street) as its preferred location. On May 17,2005, the Council considered the matter of
a "custom design versus manufactured structure," and unanimously decided to pursue a custom
restroom design. Staff negotiated a Scope of Services with the firm of ELS Architects of
Berkeley to perform this work, and on June 21, 2005, the Council approved the resulting
Consultant Agreement.
SR 05:256
Page I
