THE CITY OF ~jJ

pL£AS&NTONo ci , Council
Staff Report

August 23, 2005
City Manager

SUBJECT: REVIEW OF CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES FOR 2005-2006

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Review the work plan and make changes as necessary. The Council may
adopt these changes at this meeting or recommended they be adopted at a
City Council meeting scheduled for September 6.

SUMMARY: This past April the City Council adopted a prioritized work plan for 2006-06
(Attachment B). At the time of adoption, the Council indicated it would
review the work plan to incorporate comments from the Councilmember
elected in June. Councilmembers have had an opportunity to review the
work plan and make changes to individual priorities or to add/ amend
projects. The purpose of this meeting will be to review the plan with these
changes.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

On April 12, 2005, your Council conducted a workshop for the purpose of prioritizing City
Council projects for the upcoming year. The process was similar to previous priority setting
workshops in that the City Council had an opportunity to review both existing and potential new
projects and to prioritize and/or reprioritize these projects in a way that meets the Council's
expectations. The end result of this process is an annual work plan that is designed to inform the
community of the Council's "shared vision" and provide the City Manager with the policy
direction needed to direct City resources including preparation of the annual Budget.

On April 19 the City Council adopted the work plan placing projects in broad goals/categories as
follows:

SR 05:239
Page 1
