project. The $346,000 in gas tax funding will come out of the existing
Annual Resurfacing CIP project funds.

The resurfacing of West Las Positas will continue to keep Pleasanton's
arterial streets at a high standard and reduce overall maintenance expenses.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:
BACKGROUND

MTC anticipates an additional $105 million in federal STP funds will become available for
programming in the region. Of these funds, $22.5 million dollars have been reserved for local
streets and road projects. Alameda County is expected to receive $3 million of the projected
$22.5 million dollars. Based on the funding estimates by CMA for local streets and roads
rehabilitation, the City of Pleasanton would be eligible for a maximum amount of $135,000 from
the STP Cycle 1 Augmentation Program.

West Las Positas Boulevard between Hacienda Drive and Hopyard Road is in need of roadway
surface rehabilitation and is identified under our Pavement Management System to be resurfaced.
Since the City of Pleasanton is eligible for the fixed amount of $135,000 for STP Cyclel federal
funding, this roadway section would be an ideal candidate for this STP Cycle 1 Augmentation
Program.

BUDGET

Project cost estimate, federal funding, and local match needed is presented as follows:

Construction Cost (Estimate) $413,000
Contingency $ 41,300
Construction Support Services (Survey and Geotechnical) $ 5,700
Total Construction Cost: $460,000

Eligible Federal funds (TEA21)
Local Gas Tax (Annual Resurfacing Program)
Total Project Funding:

$135,000
$325,000
$460,000

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the application for federal funds of $135,000 for
the subject project and allocate $325,000 from the programmed local gas tax fund out of the
City's Annual Resurfacing Program for FY 2005-2006 (CIP No. 055003).

SR:05:178
