THE CITY OF <br /> <br />pL£AS&NTONo <br /> <br />6T <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> June 21, 2005 <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN <br />APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL SURFACE TRANSPORTATION <br />PROGRAM AND CONGESTION MITIGATION AND AIR <br />QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FUNDING FOR <br />RESURFACING OF WEST LAS POSITAS BOULEVARD- <br />HACIENDA DRIVE TO HOPYARD ROAD <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br />meeting of June 21, 2005: <br /> <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the application for Federal Surface <br />Transportation Program and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality <br />Improvement program funding for street resurfacing of West Las <br />Positas Boulevard from Hacienda Drive to Hopyard Road, committing <br />the necessary local match funding for the project and stating the City's <br />commitment to complete the project. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is currently reviewing <br />applications for the Cycle 1 Augmentation TEA 21 (Federal Transportation <br />Equity Act for the 21st Century) funding under the Surface Transportation <br />Program (STP) and the Congestion Management Air Quality Program <br />(CMAQ). <br /> <br />The street resurfacing of West Las Positas Boulevard from Hacienda Drive <br />to Hopyard Road Project was chosen as a candidate project for the STP <br />Cycle 1 Augmentation funding. Staffs evaluation of the roadway pavement <br />conditions using the MTC's Pavement Management System (PMS) shows <br />this section of arterial roadway as the one with the greatest need of <br />pavement improvements. This application would provide $135,000 in <br />federal funds and require $346,000 from gas tax funds to complete the <br /> <br />SR:05:178 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
