<br />William Toomey, 6016 Alisal Street, represented the application. He felt the staff report <br />was very thorough and said he had no problem with not allowing food or alcoholic beverages <br />in the game room. He felt the requested application was in line with other restaurants in the <br />City. He said the original plan was to include a billiard table, but at this time that is not <br />intended. <br /> <br />Commissioner Michelotti discussed with Mr. Toomey the kind of games he intends to install. <br />Mr. Toomey said he intends to install basketball and bowling type electronic games, not <br />games similar to the Game Station. He noted that the games he plans to have are geared to <br />adults up to 21. He referred to Condition 4 in regard to "adult" games and said he has no <br />intention ever to install pornographic or adult games. <br /> <br />In response to Chairman Mahern's question, Mr. Toomey replied that if a person under the <br />age of 18 were to enter the game room without an adult, he or she would be asked to leave. <br />He said he definitely does not want this establishment to become a "hangout" for teens or <br />undesirable individuals. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Several of the Commissioners expressed concern that the establishment would create <br />neighborhood problems like the Game Station on Valley Avenue. They also expressed <br />concern that only patrons over the age of 18 be allowed to enter the game room, unless <br />accompanied by an adult. The applicant reiterated that this business would not become like <br />the Game Station and that patrons would be "carded" for I.D. purposes and rules would be <br />followed as to age limits. <br /> <br />Commissioner McGuirk asked if oigarette machines would be allowed in the game room. <br /> <br />Betty Ineson, 46831 Ranchodira Road, Fremont, property manager, supported the <br />application as a family style restaurant, much like various pizza parlors. She felt this could <br />be a place where people could eat and have fun at the same time. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hovingh expressed concern that litter could be a problem at this location. <br />Ms. Ineson stated that they would have a maintenance person take care of this issue; if they <br />determined that it came from some other business they would ask them to assist in the <br />cleanup. <br /> <br />Commissioner Wright asked if the other tenants have been notified of this application. Ms. <br />Ineson said she has spoken to every tenant; their concern was about the possibility of teens <br />hanging around, which was her concern also. The tenants are now comfortable that the <br />property manager does care about what happens at the location. <br /> <br />Martin Sweeney, 1742 Magnolia Circle, said he owns Moonlighting Formal Wear two doors <br />down. He had no objection to the application, but expressed concern that teens might start <br />hanging around, destroying property and leaving junk around.
