REVISIONS AND OMISSIONS TO THE AGENDA

Mr. Swift requested that RZ-91-1, City of Pleasanton, and Z-91-74, CPS Pleasanton One, be
continued to 6-12-91. The Commission agreed to this request.

MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS

1. Commissioner Wright expressed concern about the number of flyers relating to
everything from real estate to sports events at the park that are inserted on windshields while
at the Sports Park. He felt this creates a litter problem and asked staff if anything can be
done about this. Mr. Swift said it is illegal to do and will check on the matter.
Commissioner Wright suggested that flyers pertaining to sports events could be displayed at
the snack bar.

2. Commissioner McGuirk thanked street department for filling in the potholes at the Sports
Park. He also called attention to pedestrian traffic crossing from Parkside Drive into the
Sports Park. He said people tend to dart out from the landscaped area and felt it was a
dangerous situation, and asked that staff see what they can do to correct that matter.

3. Commissioner Michelotti thanked staff for their prompt responses to the Commission's
concerns.

~ BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS - PUBLIC HEARINGS

V-91-10. Vintal!e Hills Elementarv School
Application for a variance from the Municipal Code to construct an 18 sq. ft.
monument sign which exceeds the maximum size area limit (12 sq. ft.) for signage in a
residential district at the Vintage Hills Elementary School located at 1125 Concord
Street. Zoning for the property is R-I-6500 (Single-family Residential) District.

Mr. Swift presented the staff report recommending approval of Case V-91-10 subject to the
conditions of the staff report.

Commissioner McGuirk asked for clarification as to the logic of having an 18 sq. ft. versus a
12 sq. ft. sign that is normally used in a residential district. Mr. Swift explained that a
variance is appropriate in this instance as more of the 10 acre frontage is exposed and the
setback is larger.

Commissioner Horan and Chairman Mahern briefly discussed the appearance of the sign.

Commissioner Hovingh expressed concem that a plastic covering on the sign front might
become worn after a period of time. Mr. Swift explained that a lexon shield would provide
protection.

~

Minutes PImming Commission
May 22, 1991

Page 2

..

-
