add a senior assisted-care housing complex similar to the assisted living center
that was built in Livermore, at Murietta and East Stanley Boulevard across from
the Valley Care Hospital? Will Pleasanton be known for its concern and care for
all segments of its population? I believe our Vision statement needs some specific
recognition of this need.

4. We all know that traffic surrounding Pleasanton will probably get worse given the
growth in Dublin and possibly in North Livermore. What is our vision ten years
from now? Is a worsening situation inevitable? If so, what should our vision of
the city be? Should we insulate ourselves from the problem by closing offcut-
through streets? Should we concentrate on having the state build a Route 84
super-highway? These are specifics that usually are part of a Strategy statement
but should start with what our vision is for our city.

When Martin Luther King presented his "I have a Dream" speech in Washington, he said
"I have a dream .... where little black boys and black gifts will be able to join hands with
little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers." One can
visualize that. One can visualize the changes that had to be made to make Dr. King's
vision come true.

In these Vision statements, - I have a difficult time visualizing change. I see status quo,
which may be OK.

What I believe is needed, are more Specific mental images of where we want to be in 10
years. I want to see the picture in my mind. I believe what's here are niceties that 10
years now we would end up saying - this is nice, but did we achieve our vision? I don't
believe we would know. So, my suggestion is to be more specific in our vision so we will
have the ability to better measure ourselves in 10 years.
