THE ~1T¥ 8A <br /> C;ity oun¢il <br /> St ff Report <br /> <br /> June 21, 2005 June 7, 2005 <br /> Planning Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Review and Consideration of Proposed General Plan Update Vision Statement <br /> <br />PURPOSE: To receive a summary of public input on Draft Vision Statements and to <br /> reach agreement on a Working Draft Vision Statement to guide the <br /> preparation of the General Plan goals, policies and programs. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br /> Staff recommends the Council consider the summary of public input and <br /> reach agreement on a Working Draft Vision Statement <br /> <br />SUMMARY: In March, 2005, the City Council directed that the General Plan update <br /> include a Vision statement. Staff brought a preliminary draft to the Planning <br /> Commission for consideration and following Planning Commission input, <br /> two potential Vision Statements were released for public discussion. Staff <br /> has received comment on the vision statements via e-mail and at a Town <br /> Hall Meeting, held on May 31st, 2005. Staff has incorporated the consensus <br /> of the Town Hall discussion into a Version 3 Vision Statement for City <br /> Council consideration. Staff recommends the City Council reach general <br /> agreement on a Working Draft Vision Statement to guide preparation of the <br /> General Plan. <br /> <br /> Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> <br /> On March 1, 2005, the City Council directed that the updated General Plan include a vision <br /> statement. Drafting a statement provides an opportunity for the community to define the end <br /> result and the "big ideas" that will guide the update process.
