,--

have to find a place to relocate dirt; however, this will be
addressed at the tentative map stage.

COMMENTS ON MIRADOR DRIVE EXTENSION TO BERNAL AVENUE

Donald MCKenzie, 790 E. Angela street, said he represents 489
residents of Old Towne, Pleasanton Heights, and surrounding area
who signed the petition in favor of the extension of Mirador
Drive to Bernal Avenue, in the event that the Bonde project is
approved for development. He read the petition statement,
stating that people who signed the petition were not asked if
they were of voting age, but rather that they were residents at
the street address. The petitioners requested the extension for
the following reasons: The General Plan recommended the
extension to improve the traffic circulation; response time for
emergency vehicles to the area, such as fire trucks would be
shortened; over 78% of Old Towne and Pleasanton Heights favor
the extension of Mirador Drive. He also pointed out that staff
recommended the extension.

Chairman Mahern asked the audience how many of them favored the
extension of Mirador Drive. About four were in favor; 12 were
not; most did not respond.

,--

Margo Kelly, 5157 Independence Drive, stated she is not in favor
of the Mirador Drive extension. She felt it would greatly
increase traffic on Independence Drive. She felt that the
traffic count portrayed in the EIR was inaccurate as it took
place in June 1990 when school was not in session. In addition,
she said the traffic on Bernal Avenue and Independence Drive is
already so heavy at times that she must wait a long time to make
a left turn onto Independence Drive. She felt that with the long
hill most people did not go the speed limit of 35 mph. She
thought that if the Mirador extension was made it would end up
going past her house on Independence Drive. She said she has
many concerns about the project, but right now her greatest
concern is with traffic. If the project is approved, she would
favor the elimination of "F" Street.

Kay Leedum, 673 Abbie street, was opposed to the Mirador Drive
extension. She thought a tremendous amount of grading would have
to be done to make the extension and she was opposed to that. In
addition, if fill was carried in to make the extension, she
thought that would put homes towering over her home. She did not
think that petitioners for the extension were thinking of those
people on Abbie Street, and those people did not have adequate
information. She felt the viewshed from her home would be
ruined.

Joan Tenbrink, 4265 Mirador Drive, was opposed to the Mirador
extension. She said she has had numerous animals killed on her
street because of the speeding traffic going down the hill.

MINUTES

PLANNING COMMISSION

MARCH 13, 1991

Page 7
