traffic studies, and an effort made to eliminate problems existing at other schools in
Pleasanton. Chairman Wright believes being cooperative with the School District may result
in their implementation of some of the ideas and suggestions made by staff.

Mr. Swift described the difference between changing the PUD and changing the land use
designation. If the school is not needed in the future, it could more easily be recycled back
into a business use if the PUD was modified. Also, this issue would not have to go before
the General Plan Steering Committee.

Commissioner Barker would like the General Plan Committee to review this issue, and she
would like to see the School District perform some type of outreach to the community
regarding this possible school site.

In response to Chairman Wright, Mr. McDonald advised that this school site has always
been pinpointed for a middle school.

Commissioner Barker inquired what the ramifications would be if the Planning Commission
did not initiate this process. Mr. Swift advised that the School District would again ask for
approval, which the Planning Commission could not give because of the inconsistency with
the General Plan. At that point the School District could override the General Plan and go
forward with the school construction.

Commissioner Hovingh stated he would like to reexamine the PUD if the property is to be
taken over by the School District and what Prudential plans to do with their allowable square
foot calculations.

Chairman Wright noted his recommendation is to pursue a rezoning and ask the General Plan
Steering Committee for their input.

General discussion ensued regarding possible problems and situations that could arise with
the school being located in Hacienda.

A motion was made by Commi,,~ioner Hovingh, seconded by Commissioner Barker,
initiating a process to bring the site into confonnity with the General Plan, and
requesting the General Plan Review Committee to provide their input within 14 to 21
days of their receipt of the staff report.

ROLL CALL VOTE

AYES:
NOES:
ABSENT:
ABSTAIN:

Commissioners Dove, Hovingh, Lutz, Barker, and Chairman Wright
None
Commissioner McGuirk
None

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 6

December 14, 1994
