MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS

Commissioner Finch reported that a metal sign advertising "hauling d clean-up" has been
placed on the fence at the intersection of Foothill Road and West La Positas.

~

Commissioner Michelotti stated she had not realized during the appr val process of Laguna
Oaks that there would be so many light standards along Foothill Roa . She added that the
rural feeling is gone, and Foothill Road has become a city boulevard She also inquired if
the traffIc lights at Foothill Road and Bernal could be left off until traffic flow warrants
turning them on. Mr. Iserson reported that he believed the traffic v lume already demands
that the lights be operable.

Commissioner Finch reported the access out of Jorgensen Lane is w rse since the
improvement of Foothill Rd. He also reported that the bridge on Be al needs to have a
pedestrian walkway. The current situation is unsafe for pedestrians. Mr. Higdon indicated
that originally the addition of a second bridge on Bernal was to have been built by this time;
adding that it will be another year before the second bridge is built.

Commissioner Hovingh reported that few people stop when making ght or left turns at
Foothill and West Las Positas and travel at excessive speeds as well.

Commissioner Hovingh commented for the record that the General P an Steering Committee
is reluctant to expand the size of the committee and give citizens of leasanton an
opportunity to express themselves and vote. He feels that unless the ommittee is expanded,
the idea of a "Citizen's Committee" is a charade. He added that the General Plan Steering
Committee, has been appointed by the Council, and does not represe t the views of the
citizens.

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 10

September 8, 1993
